Symptoms & Preventative Measures

When a Apple Computer Company iPod Touch 3Gen needs a Headphone Jack

Symptoms that require a headphone jack replacement
  • iPod only puts out audio to one side (left or right) of headphones (to verify, try another pair)
  • iPod has crackling noises when earphones are plugged in but not when audio comes out of the dock, bluetooth A2DP or internal speaker
  • iPod audio is week coming out of headphone jack, or not at all
  • iPod audio only works on headphones when you press, twist or apply angled pressure on the audio jack

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Restart your iPhod Touch
  • Peek inside the iPod headphone jack to see if there is lint blocking full entrance of the headphone jack. Clean with a needle by picking at debris.
  • Install headphone jack and play music from iPod. If the iPod is playing but no audio is coming out, unplug the headphone jack and see if the music stops. If it doesn't stop, you will likely need this replacement.
  • If audio is crackly or still only coming from one side, attempt using a different set of earbuds or headphones. If problem persists, you will likely need a replacement

Preventative Measures - Keep this from happening again

  • Make sure you regularly check the iPod Touch headphone jack for dust and debris.
  • Keep iPod Touch away from fluids as this will likely damage your headphone jack and make audio crackly or dissapate from corrossion.
  • Ensure to not apply pressure on the headphone jack unless plugging or unplugging the jack, in which case ensure that you are applying pressure to only the jack itself of the headphones, not the cable.
  • If you use your iPod Touch while excercising, ensure that you maintain a dry environment. Sweat can and will cause damage to the iPod, even from your hands. Make sure to wipe your hands before use, and if you use an arm band, make sure to wipe it clean occassionally to prevent liquid damage.

Is this part an Original iPod Touch part?

Yes. There is a 1 Month Warranty against manufacturing defects or installation errors, including the part and labor to replace it. Please ensure that you pick up a warranty card at the time of repair. The warranty explicitly does not include any damage to the back case or cover that is broken or damaged in any way, or if there is any water damage to the iPod Touch, or if the iPod Touch was repaired by any other company. Warranty validation may require further inquiry than initial inspection.
